Have you ever finished a book and just sat there with your jaw open wondering what did I just read? What is going to happen next? This book did it for me. Reading this brought me far from my comfort zone, which is saying a lot since I love horror. This is a gritty, raw, and very detailed story on rape and revenge with a twist that I did not see coming. At times I felt as though I was reading poetry, which made me pause and reflect on that passage. You just do not see such fluid poetic writing in horror that often. Tarryl Janik does not hold back and each scene played out in my mind like I was standing right there. A must read if you are a fan of horror and do not mind stepping out of your comfort zone.

Hard to follow, no continuity. Just too weird for me and I read over half of it to try to get it to make sense, then I quit. There are much better books out there and I'm sure I read the reviews on this...but have to say their idea of good & mine are 2 totally different things
The story was not interesting. In fact, it was horribly written. There was no plot and the story telling was all over the places. I didn't get it at all.
"Godforsaken" is a highly descriptive novel full of graphic imagery that engages you immediately and throws you into the desolate lives of the characters. A picture of disturbing truth is painted that makes you feel the hopelessness, lechery, and cynical disorder of the human psyche that we would often rather ignore in Life. It establishes an understanding of how corrupt and sullen a human soul can be... and that's all before being introduced to the sorcery that sets the stage for the forthcoming books... A well written first novel... if you have the backbone to read it. I eagerly await the next one.
From the first page I easily entered this Godforsaken world Tarryl has created. Not only did I feel interested in the main character and his story, but in the way he was described I also felt an equal amount of disgust and dislike for his personality. I didn't think I was going to be interested in following his story because of this. As the tale went from normal missing person investigation to twisted I found myself spending the whole afternoon reading the book instead of just taking an hour to start it. The direction the story went was not what I was expecting. I have a feeling the rest of the books will also keep me guessing. I can't wait to find out.
Tarryl writes with a pungent crispness that evokes both disgust and intrigue. While reading the book I often found myself squinting with despair and peaking at the words while being unable to put it down—the way one might feel at a horror film, covering their eyes to shield themselves from the atrocities but still peaking between fingers for a glimpse. Not only is the plot gripping, but Tarryl intertwines bits and pieces of intellectual juiciness for readers to chew on really showing his passion and knowledge for dark shamanism and anthropology of ia. Great debut novel.
If you are looking for a fast-paced, intriguing, delightfully disturbing read, then look no further. Author Tarryl Janik has woven a tale of horror, suspense, and sex, and combined it with elements of ian Dark Shamanism, to create an amalgamation that is at once entertaining and educational. Janik's characters are accessible and realistic, and his writing style is modern but poetic. As an added perk for the busy adult, "Godforsaken" is a fairly quick read. If you make time for no other reading in 2016, make sure to make time for this.
I really enjoyed the trilogy. Mind blowing. Different from what I've read so far. Reading this brought me far from my comfort zone I ussually read suspense/thriller novels. The writting is graphic, disturbing but you have to keep reading. Great ending.
