Once again another good book by Jude. This one is part of a series about 4 brothers who all have something or someone to overcome in order to keep their king happy and to try to save what they have left. This book is no exception when it comes to a woman no wanting anything to do with an enemy family. Even though she doesn't know much about them what she has heard is enough to make her run in the opposite direction. However in this one Elizabeth is caught by the most dangerous brother of them all. The one who loves woman and is rumored to have kids with different woman throughout the country. She is being used in a game between warring families. She finds herself a captive of the most notorious of the Montgomery brothers, Miles. He is accused of using woman any way he wants. It is said that he gets them pregnant with his children for fun. Now whether or not he has anything to do with them afterward it is not said but she assumes he just leaves them. The Montgomery's were the cause of her family's problems! Her sister in laws blames them for her problems and why she is crazy, her brother blames them for his problems and one in particular for stealing his woman. The hatred and warring between these two families has caused the king to become angry with them and now he has to deal with them and keep peace so war does not break out. So between her brother Roger and loyalty to her family she must hate this man. But somewhere thru it all she starts to see a side to Miles that she didn't think existed in the Montgomery family. She is torn between believing her family or believing the Montgomery's. She doesn't know who to trust anymore and she is starting to like what she sees when she looks at Miles. So with this story full of ups and downs, hate and love, war and peace, can she love the man who is holding her captive or does she turn her back on him and all she has been thru and heard and go back to her family and live like they do hating the Montgomery's the cause of all their problems. This series is set back in the old knights, kings, and when people had title's. As he is holding her hostage he falls in love with her. For him it was almost love at first site. For Elizebeth she is going to fight him no matter what, at least until she can't anymore. The times back then was a whole lot different from now and so some might not like this series in regards to how the woman are treated at some point. However being set back in historical times means not everything is how it should be. The men were a lot harder and meaner to the woman but somewhere thru it all they learned to love, and eventually trust each other. I would imagine that is a hard thing to overcome; how a man treats you and then one day you find yourself wanting to trust him and eventually love him after all he puts her thru. The times of then and now are so different. Some people would call it rape now days on how the woman in these books are treated, in that era it wasn't and if you get into your books and read what is happening and you will find yourself lost in these stories. By the way both of them act it isn't rape, or brutality it is just who they are and how passionate the can be.

Velvet Angel Jude Deveraux 9780671739737 Books Reviews

It's the forbidden love between enemy families with many underlying misunderstandings leading to the estrangement tale, but it is pretty well developed and the characters are interesting. The end has many unexpected twists that seemingly come out of nowhere; I feel like it is missing more background on these issues that come to light later in the book. Otherwise, a predictable but good read.
Jude Deveraux never disappoints and this final installment in The Velvet Montgomery Annals is exceptional. It ties all the loose little topics up -- settles the family war between the Montgomery and the Chatworths, sees Miles and Roger both wed, then it just tells you how the families fared. Perfect!!!
Velvet Angel is a fair story. I. Believe I've read better Jude Deveraux but this one was not bad. It is a story of knights and barrels of old and the women they fought and loved. It had the usual errors of modern day writing. Where would we be without spell check to change our words to totally different words with different meanings. It's kinda like texting.
Good story - the book4 of the Montgomery brothers - Miles, youngest brother, is given a gift, the sister of the man that was responsible for is sisters death. Miles fell in love with her from the start but wanted to tame her and get her love free and clear. A good story of the clashing of human wills and families. Was enjoyable to read
That was one of the best 4 book series I have read in a very long time.. The four brothers unique and powerful in their own right.. They married women who where strong and very opinionated... Very unique for women in that time period... again I sing praise for Jude Deveraux... Great storyteller... Pulls you into the story holds your attention... Humor... Tears... Engaging all your emotions about the people she writes about... I will read this again in a few years and i will enjoy it just as much... Thank you Jude...
Kindness always melt even a hardened heart. This story shows that even enemies can be friends with forgiveness.
I liked how the story of the 4 brothers were linked from the Velvet Promise to Velvet Angel.
I also like the summary for each family.
With a book that you put it down midway through? I can say that this book made me do just that. The author wants us to believe that a woman who is a lifetime enemy of the Montgomery clan decides within a few days of being held hostage to trust her captor enough to demand he make love to her. That she so suddenly becomes enamored enough with this weakling of a stud service to forget her years of fear. I usually enjoy Deveraux's books, but this one really irritated me. So much so that I was yelling and muttering at it while I read. I understand it's romantic fiction. But at least have some reality tossed in there while you're writing. Elizabeth trusts no one, no man, and especially a Montgomery. Yet there she is tossing herself at him like every other woman he's met.
